How to have more in a have not world…create it!!!

The world seems to be going a bit mad these days.

This is not a political observation. It is way bigger than that. For a variety of reasons, some of which we are aware and many of which we aren’t, a huge tumult has come upon our systems,  our planet and our communities, and much that has been hidden is coming to light. Traumas small and large are being stimulated by some of this breaking loose of old material, and when we are “triggered” as humans, we sometimes forget the amazing powers of co-creation we possess…the power of a WORD fitly spoken.

The bible tells us that the WORD becomes flesh. Metaphysically speaking, we know that even thoughts are things, and that words are an out picturing of our thoughts. What we tell ourselves resonates at the cellular level to create a vibratory force field that in fact becomes OUR WORLD. What you think, matters. What you say MATTERS. Our subconscious minds have no sense of humor, and verbally repeating old traumas convinces our inner selves that it is happening all over again in the here and now, and perpetrates our trauma on those we tell about it.

I want to suggest some power words to you that you can use to change your experience, and those of our world. If you keep repeating what you don’t want, that is what you are re-creating believe it or not!  Are you up for trying ? Ok, ready?

Here are 10 words to build a beautiful tomorrow: Healing, Wholeness, Good, Strong, Exciting, Creative, Funny, Inspirational, Abundant, Enthusiastic.

See if you can use these words at least once a day for a week. It is really hard to talk about awfulness when you use empowering words, and once you discover how much better you feel…you might add them to your vocabulary permanently.

Ok? Are you up for it?  Let’s go for it!!!  We can create this thing one power thought, word and vision at a time!!  Let me know how it goes. zjaneg@gmail.com, janegalloway.com, Tribealive.org…all places to discover some cool ideas.

And while you are at it, check out my new book too!! The Gateways- The Wisdom of 12-Step Spirituality./ Sacredstoriespublishing 2016.  You can get it on Amazon, and learn so many tools for changing the vibe you won’t believe it. Actually, if you want to get at the stuff that is holding you back, understand it and let it go for good, you need The Gateways. It’s a Wellness approach to the deep work that is actually fun.

OK!!! Let’s change the world!  Power up!!

Sending love from the quantum field,

I Forgive You

tribe-2

Dear T.R.I.B.E. friends,

NADINE COLLIER, DAUGHTER OF VICTIM ETHEL LANCE
“I forgive you. You took something very precious away from me. I will never get to talk to her ever again. I will never be able to hold her again, but I forgive you, and have mercy on your soul. … You hurt me. You hurt a lot of people. If God forgives you, I forgive you.”

These words, and the deep conviction underlying them, changed a nation. They surely changed me. In a moment of unfathomable pain and loss, the daughter of 87 year old Ethel Lance was able to show us all that forgiveness is a spiritual principal that does NOT presuppose an absence of pain, but rather frees the person wronged, to continue to live.

The spiritual maturity of this woman, this suffering daughter, was missed by so many. Her forgiveness was not facile, nor was it letting the perpetrator off the hook. Her deep conviction and forceful insistence upon forgiving gave the responsibility back to the person who caused the pain, and the ultimate rectification to God. To miss the astonishing power of this teaching is to miss a lot.

A speaker at the 80th Birthday celebration for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, held in Anaheim, CA this last week, in dialogue with His Holiness and other Nobel Laureates, made the point clear that Compassion without Wisdom is futile. Seeking deeper understanding of our own and others’ emotional motivations, reconnecting to the wisdom of nature, studying and learning and most of all, ACTING in the interest of the elimination of nuclear weapons, and to level the playing fields in education and economics, is the definition of Empowered Compassion.

And most important of all, the message of two days of dialogues with wise ones, is that if you are utilizing “enlightenment” in a way to simply serve yourself, it is not enlightenment, but narcissism.

Thank you Nadine Collier, for showing a nation a living example of the cost and the power of empowered compassion. Thank you His Holiness, for your searing intelligence and dedication to your own daily practice.

“Anyone can whistle, that’s what they say, easy. Anyone can whistle, any old day, easy…What’s hard is simple, What’s natural comes hard. Maybe you can show me how to let go, lower my guard, learn to be …free. Maybe if you whistle; Whistle for me.”

Stephen Sondheim

Whistling…

The Personal Is Political

tribe-2

Dear TRIBE Friends,

Diana Vreeland, Yoko Ono, Lauren Hutton, Inèz de la Fressange, Angela Davis,,Betsey Johnson, Cicely Tyson, Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keefe, Simone De Beauvoir, Audre Lord, Diane Von Furstenberg, Miuccia Prada, Anne Lamott, Benazir Bhutto, Kimora Lee Simmons, Smart. powerful, stylish, brave women.
And they each have spoken their truth through a personal style that is decidedly individual and brave.

The question about personal style is one that is endlessly fascinating. Most
actresses are taught from their first acting class that having “actress length hair” and a neutral palate of other personally identifying style attributes are a requisite for being a tabula rasa upon which a character may be drawn.
This kind of makes sense of course, but the craft of the artist is to be able to be a chameleon when needed. Wigs exist…, but the imagination of the writer/director/producer/studio is not to be taxed . Actresses are to be blank canvases, clay if you will, through whom a character may be brought to life.

And actresses are basically an extension of the role of women in our world. Women…and children…and marginalized folks of all description, remain a canvas upon which the power games of the dominant androcentric imagination are played out…for better or for worse.

The artist Cindy Sherman has made a career out of looking at this idea of identity and women. She utterly transforms herself into myriad versions of a woman, through costume and make up and setting…all using herself as the canvas. She then photographs her creation.

“The personal is political” is a phrase that was collectively created during Stage Two feminism, and it motivates the opening of “private” or “social ” matters .through the lens of ones’ personal experience. It is a radical act to tell one’s story, to assert one’s experience. This is ESPECIALLY true for woman or anyone who is marginalized. The act of creation, of volition, is usually reserved for a dominant POV. And so we often feel more comfortable seeing ourselves through that lens too…but chances are, that ISN’T your real voice.

In other words, YOU getting to know yourself at a deep level, and then telling YOUR stories boldly should open others to have insights and ‘ah has’…and to find their OWN voices as well. Of course, until we know our truth, it is impossible to speak it. Many, if not most, of the world’s religions tell us how to look at ourselves, and there can be dire consequences for questioning the roles that supposedly come to us from God.

Even Goddess religions have internal systems of hierarchical oppressiveness at their organizational core! This came as a shock to a colleague of mine who was doing her PhD on the subject. So this means that you can dress up in a bunch of flowing gowns or gender bending clothes, and still be channeling a poison pedagogy or teaching method, and saying it comes from God! It is crazy!!
Honestly? Our truth resides within…and the greatest gift we can give the world is to really get to know ourselves, and then tell our story in a way that frees others to do the same.

When you talk, whose voice do YOU use?
Who are YOU?

That is always the question.
Listening…

Yoko Ono, Anna Wintour and YOU,

tribe-2

Hey T.R.I.B.E.!!

On May 17th, The Museum of Modern Art in NYC opened “Yoko Ono- One Woman Show 1960-1971.” This is a show that could have been done years ago, and Ms Ono is actually much more interested in her current and emerging work.

See, in 1971, Ms Ono DID a CONCEPTUAL show at MOMA…even though the museum didn’t officially recognize it ! She advertised the show, printed a catalogue for it, and posted a sign at the door of the museum telling visitors she had released flies inside (of course she hadn’t), and that everyone was invited to track them down throughout the city!]
So in her mind, her show was DONE!
By the time the general establishment officially accepts an idea, it is usually a “yesterday” kind of thing.

One of my favorite art pieces of Ms Ono’s was her “Wishing Tree”, in the MOMA sculpture garden several years ago. It was a bare tree, with plain labeling tags and pens along side for observers to write their dreams and leave them on the tree. My favorite was “I wish to meet Anna Wintour” (editor of Vogue Magazine)

Conceptual art is about IDEAS…about conceiving in the Mind, fueling with emotion, and seeing as real. Some people call that metaphysics…others call it prayer. Ernest Holmes said “What Mind can CONCEIVE, you can achieve.”

Doesn’t matter how you call it.

Dare to dream your dream, to conceive your deepest idea, and then release it into the Universe with a feeling that it is DONE. Keep creating! Keep moving!
Maybe MOMA will give you a show someday too, but by then? you will have manifested so much cool stuff that was attached to that dream, that you may or may not really care:)

Peace/out,
Jane

“Like Burning Man- Without The Roughing It Part”

tribe-2

Hey T.R.I.B.E. Friends,

A million lifetimes ago I was in a hit Off Broadway show that started with the three actresses spending half an hour at onstage dressing tables “getting ready” . It was a genius concept, and allowed for a time that was actually my favorite part of the whole show…I got to watch the audience watch us, but I also got to just people watch, to SPY on people and get paid for it:) . It interested me SO MUCH to see how people interacted with each other, who was happy, what was happening with couples and friends and sometimes even with Secret Service agents if a political figure was in the audience.

I was interested in how people connected or didn’t, and while I always love all of my creative work as actor, writer, director, community builder, ordained minister, counselor, educator, life coach, curator etc.., what I am really interested in is being a catalyst for connection!

A couple of years ago, I hired a marketing guru to help me get at what it is I do…and that is how T.R.I.B.E. was born. After the guru listened really carefully to me, she said “You are a kind of urban Burning Man, without the roughing it part.” YES!! Love it! I then took some of her ideas to part of my fabulous mini tribe in NYC, and we got at the essence of what it is about to gather in the way I love to gather. The word tribe was all through the guru’s suggestions, but I kept using it as an adjective like Tribal…whatever,
My friend finally said “I like just TRIBE,”, and then she came up with the idea of creating an acronym. We came up with those elements that make up the who, what, when, where, why of T.R.I.B.E. in that group, and I have been working with some of you, to create opportunities for conscious gathering ever since.
The acronym is about DOING: Transformation, Realization, Inspiration, Belonging, Expression T.R.I.B.E.!!

See, I am interested in why people gather, and how we interact with one another when we gather. It is the coming together for a creative purpose that means something.
I have found that people come to gatherings the way they show up for life. Some folks are down for the whole process of preparation and planning and creation and clean up! Others come late, leave early and send e-mails afterward:) Some engage and then retreat and then engage again. And others say how sorry they are to have missed an event…and then miss the next one too!

T.R.I.B.E. is a wonderful “Urban Burning Man without the roughing it part” umbrella for many expressions..
For now, I am very excited about my work with the 12 Step Nation, and am teaming up with Rev. Sunshine Daye on a great event on June 20 in CA. called “Rev My Recovery”. We are all in recovery from something, and the idea of moving ON and IN and not getting stuck interests us. One of the areas that many people seem to have some struggle is the finding of a Higher Power that works. We will be looking at many sides of that search, and through this day long Recovery Summit, we will discover tools and ideas and ways “to be” that support us beyond Phase One Recovery. Sign up info coming soon!.

But about T.R.I.B.E, for anyone who really doesn’t quite get it…I am all about using experience and relationships in community as the catalyst for Co-Creating an ever evolving reality for good. And artists understand what making “something out of nothing” is all about, so I am interested in appealing to the artist in you.

I LOVE one of The Promises in the 12 Steps- “You will not regret the past, nor wish to shut the door on it.” I LOVE weaving new experiences out of some of the strands of things that have maybe been painful or confusing. That IS ALCHEMY, spinning gold out of base metal:) My favorite thing to do!!!

So stay tuned to the emerging work of T.R.I.B.E., if you are interested that is. It is about community as a social/ spiritual/ artistic practice…and it keeps moving! You will see these changes reflected on the website as I figure out how to do that:)

What an exciting time to be alive! EVERYTHING is shifting…Some institutions are falling apart and some people are making swift transitions to the next level of reality. A LOT is happening energetically, in the quantum field, and we have the opportunity to be a part of that rather than trying to remain a fixed something in an ever evolving Universe.

So THIS is what T.R.I.B.E. is all about.
Look forward to seeing you SOON at one or another opportunity to be …an artist of possibility in community. in NYC or CA, or online or…

Sappy Spring…Finally!
Jane
